Official Boil Advisory for Isolated Areas

BOIL ADVISORY

TOWN OF PORT BARRE PWS ID# 1097013

JUNE 22, 2019

For Immediate Release to Water System Customers

The Town of Port Barre experienced little to no water pressure in an isolated area in the distribution system on Saturday, June 22, 2019, due to a scheduled shut off NORTH of Bayou Courtableau to make repairs to a gas line. This shut off affected all customers across the Bayou Courtableau bridge, including residents along Saizan Avenue, East and West Courtableau Streets, as well as all intersecting streets, including the O.G. Track Road, all of which are NORTH of the bridge. Because of this scheduled “shut off,” the water supply to these areas only is of questionable microbiological quality. Therefore, as a precaution, a BOIL ADVISORY was put into place immediately for those customers located in the isolated areas described above on the Town of Port Barre’s Water System. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Town of Port Barre Water System. It is recommended that these consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:

Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)

Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.

The Town of Port Barre Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.
