Official Boil Advisory

The following is the "official" Boil Advisory. The water samples are being taken today, and if all clears, hopefully the advisory will be lifted by Wednesday. Please stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for all updates as they become available. Thank you.

JANUARY 19, 2019
For Immediate Release to Water System Customers
The Town of Port Barre experienced little to no water pressure in the distribution system on Saturday, January 19, 2019, due to an automobile accident with a fire hydrant on a 6 inch line extension off of the Town’s 8 inch main line along Highway 190. Because of this break and resulting shut down of the system, the water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality. Therefore, as a precaution, a BOIL ADVISORY was put into place immediately for all customers on the Town of Port Barre’s Water System. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Town of Port Barre Water System. It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:
Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)
Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
The Town of Port Barre Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.
