Administration

The municipal clerk is appointed by the Mayor and serves as the center of communication for the town hall staff as well as the “gatekeeper” of information, advice and consultant on municipal affairs for the community. The municipal clerk is instrumental in the distribution and control of available public resources and is responsible to the board of aldermen for all municipal activities under his or her discretion. The municipal clerk also tracks the progress of various projects, monitors the day-to-day activities of town departments and maintains intergovernmental relationships with the federal, state and other local governments. The Town of Port Barre has an assistant town clerk, two utility clerks and a traffic clerk working under the municipal clerk and they are also instrumental in the handling of all daily municipal affairs.
