Isolated Boil Advisory

1/9/2017

PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS "NOT" FOR THE ENTIRE TOWN, ONLY THE AREA LISTED BELOW AND "DOES NOT AFFECT WATERWORKS DISTRICT NO. 3."
BOIL ADVISORY
TOWN OF PORT BARRE PWS ID# 1097013
January 9, 2017
For Immediate Release to Water System Customers...
Please be advised that at approximately 4:15 p.m. today, the Town repaired a line on the East side of the Love's Travel Center. This shut off lasted approximately 40 minutes and was in a localized area affecting the following locations: businesses and residents bordering north and south of Hwy. 190 within the corporate limits, Frisco and Bruner Streets and the mobile home park located behind the Thrifty Way Pharmacy off of Virginia Elizabeth Avenue. The shut off in our water supply system to this area caused a loss in pressure in the distribution system. Because of this, the water produced by our water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality IN THIS AREA ONLY. Therefore, as a precaution, we are issuing a BOIL ADVISORY effective immediately. This BOIL ADVISORY is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Town of Port Barre Water System. The water supply to this area was off for approximately 1 and ½ hours this morning and is back on. The boil advisory will remain in effect until we get clearance from DHH, which we hope will be tomorrow afternoon.
The Town of Port Barre has experienced an interruption in service at the above listed locations and it is recommended that all consumers IN THIS AREA ONLY, disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:
Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)
Again, please be sure to disinfect your own water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
The Town of Port Barre Water System will rescind this Boil Advisory upon notification from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals - Office of Public Health that additional water samples collected from our water supply system have shown our water to be safe.
